Wi-Fi Calling improves your mobile phone reception
in enclosed spaces by using a WLAN connection

Please note:
Phone services (calls, SMS/MMS) are billed according to your current rate. Currently, Wi-Fi Calling can only be used in WLAN networks in Switzerland (no roaming available).

Wi-Fi Calling activation

Requirements, enabled devices and activation process
Step 1: Requirements for Wi-Fi Calling

1. An operating system that supports Wi-Fi Calling (software)
Apple: iOS 10.3 an up
Android: Android version 7.0 and up
2. A smartphone that is capable of Wi-Fi Calling (hardware). See table below
3. A Wi-Fi connection with a good Internet connection
4. You must activate Wi-Fi Calling on your smartphone

Step 2: Wi-Fi calling enabled devices and activation process

Below you will find all the mobile phones you can use for Wi-Fi Calling. More will be added in the future and we will always keep the list up-to-date. Checking the list regularly will keep you up to speed. Once your mobile phone is listed below, you can also benefit from Wi-Fi Calling.

  • In the settings, select “Phone” and then activate “Wi-Fi Calling”.


  • Galaxy S6

  • Choose “Phone”, go to “More”, then “Settings” and activate “Wi-Fi Calling“.

  • Galaxy S8
  • Galaxy S8 Plus

  • Follow the described instruction to active Wi-Fi Calling: “Settings” – “Connections” – “More connection settings” – “Wi-Fi Calling” – “WI-FI CALLING SETTINGS” – “Wi-Fi Preferred”.

    Important: Wi-Fi calling functions exclusively with Switzerland-specific device software. Here you can find out if your device is optimized for Switzerland.

    Wi-Fi Calling will be automatically working after activation. If the mobile phone signal is not strong enough and you have an adequate connection to a Wi-Fi network, your smartphone will automatically switch to Wi-Fi calling, and route your calls over the Wi-Fi network.

How can I tell if I am currently using Wi-Fi Calling?
You can tell if you are using Wi-Fi Calling by these symbols on the smartphone display:

Android:In the notification bar of the phone, the symbol for WLAN connections indicates when a WLAN connection has been established and the service is ready.

This symbol shows that Wi-Fi Calling is ready for use. Calls can be made via Wi-Fi Calling.

This symbol shows that Wi-Fi Calling is not ready for use. Make sure your phone is connected to the WLAN and that the Wi-Fi connection is strong enough.

iOS: The notification bar will show “Sunrise Wi-Fi Calling” when Wi-Fi Calling is enabled.

How is Wi-Fi Calling billed?
No monthly fee is applied for using Wi-Fi Calling. Phone services (calls, SMS/MMS) are billed according to your current rate. You can find more information here.

Wi-Fi Calling connections are not specifically marked or identified as such on your monthly bill.

Can I use Wi-Fi Calling abroad, at an Internet café for example?
Currently you can only use WI-Fi Calling in WLAN networks within Switzerland. Wi-Fi Calling abroad is not possible; i.e. connecting abroad is always done via mobile signal and roaming charges will apply.
